    A wee meme from @woodsiegirl, @jaffne, @ioverlord, @stupidgirl_no1

Do you snack while you read? If so, favorite reading snack?

Favourite reading snack?! What the hell is this? You don’t snack whilst reading, you drink. Preferably gins. Until you can’t see them words no more.

Do you tend to mark your books as you read, or does the idea of writing in books horrify you?

I don’t do this, though the thought doesn’t horrify me (much). I like the idea of scribbling in the margins, but I can’t bring myself to. Apart from the whole VANDALISM issue, I just think it borders on naffness. Quotes and notes I might’ve thought were v. cool when I was 14 are likely to make me cringe today. This is how I explain away Martin Amis. If something grabs me by the metaphorical balls then I just shout about it for a while. Or dwell on it until I feel crazy and am forced to move on by people who care for me.

How do you keep your place while reading a book? Bookmark? Dog-ears? Laying the book flat open?

Bookmarks, of course. What a stupid question. I almost ended a relationship over boookmarks. I can’t believe you’re asking me this.

    Fiction, Non-fiction, or both?

Predominantly fiction, but lots of non-fiction too. If I want to know about something then I buy a book on it. I think this means I’m old skool.

    Hard copy or audiobooks?

I’m sorry, I don’t understand the concept of audiobooks. Next question.

Are you a person who tends to read to the end of chapters, or are you able to put a book down at any point?

I won’t put a book down mid sentence, but apart from that I’m not too bothered. See? No OCD here. Move along.

If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop to look it up right away?

No. I’ll look it up later and if I like it I’ll claim it as my own.

    What are you currently reading?

The Tartar Steppe by Dino Buzzati.

What is the last book you bought?

    The new Tao Lin.

Are you the type of person that only reads one book at a time or can you read more than one at a time?

Mostly one book at a time. Though I might have a novel and a book of poems on the go at the same time. Also, train rules apply here. I can’t read books with nudey pictures in on the train. I tried this, it didn’t work out.

Do you have a favorite time of day and/or place to read?

    Bedtime or in the bath.

Do you prefer series books or stand alone books?

Series books? Apart from comics, I don’t think I read these. Series books? No, you’ve lost me.

Is there a specific book or author that you find yourself recommending over and over?

I always recommend Nelson Algren. I don’t think anyone listens.

How do you organize your books? (By genre, title, author’s last name, etc.?)

I don’t organise my books. I can’t find anything, but the thought of organising them, well, I might as well just get a cat and some glasses on a chain and … jeez.
